re: Male teachers: 3 for 7 in elementary school
Third, fifth, and sixth grades. Must've been rare -- it was also 45 years ago (average). PTAs were too busy looking for the proverbial Commie; pedophilia wasn't on the accusatory radar yet.
You might even count it as 4 out of 8... five or six weeks into 5th grade, my teacher's Army reserve unit was called up (Cuban Missle Crisis). His long-term-sub replacement was another man.
Jr. high and high school, the pattern was pretty much: men taught math and science, women taught English and social studies. There were exceptions, but no more than 20% of my academic classes. All the band directors were male, too.
