Do we really care what the astronomer for the Vatican believes anymore than any other professional or amateur astronomer in the world? Why do we give celebrity status to people like this? It sounds like the guy had an open mind and they're now going to find some mindless doof that likes to look at the pretty stars and see's God's work but is this really anything for any of us to care about?

The whole notion of a religion having their own astronomer is pretty bizarre in the first place. Is he watching for semaphor messages from the heavens?

One of these days I'm hoping a pronouncement by the pope about who he surrounds himself with is about as important to the public as reports of his bowel movements.
