On a lighter side...
"Do you really think Greece went to war with Troy over a pretty face?"
I would have to say yes. Helen was a Spartan princess, and a Queen of Athens. Her departure may not have been due to kidnapping, but the was most likely about her. This was a very royal battle.
The approx. 12-year war launched between a conglomerate of Grecian city-states and the city-state of Troy, according to legend, was in response to the kidnapping of Helen, wife of Menelaus and sister-in-law to King Agamemnon of Mycenæ, by Troy’s King Priam’s son, Paris. Her face was reportedly made so lovely by Aphrodite, as to have launched a thousand ships to recover her from captivity in Troy. Speculation suggests the likelihood that Helen may well have embarked on the journey to Troy by choice, perhaps for romance, wishing nothing more than to escape the militaristic autocratic dictatorship over which her husband ruled.
