Understand history, or repeat it. Primer for Conservatives.

Of course, in Iraq there will have to be a government stable enough to NOT throw out the Americans from their permanent bases protecting American oil interests. That's a problem that Nixon didn't have.

"Soon after taking office. President Richard Nixon introduced his policy of "vietnamization". The plan was to encourage the South Vietnamese to take more responsibility for fighting the war. It was hoped that this policy would eventually enable the United States to withdraw gradually all their soldiers from Vietnam."

Al-Maliki: Iraqis to take control in south
"Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, al-Maliki said Iraqi forces will assume responsibility for Dhi Qar province in the south, making it the second out of 18 provinces that the Iraqis would control."

From the same article:

"Attacks across Iraq kill 68, wound 200. Series of coordinated assaults hit Baghdad; more than 200 dead this week."

Looks as if the Iraqis, with the help of the Coalition, aren't doin' all that well.

Arf (Yer suggestin' they don't understand history, Bow? They're suggesting it, I'm just reporting.)
