Making planes that big is insane

The A380 can carry up to 853 passengers in a single-class economy configuration, or 555 passengers in a three-class configuration.

Sure, it's safer to fly than to drive a car, but when big planes like these crash there are often no survivors. The reason is that the plane is moving so fast, even during normal landing it is going far faster than highway speeds. Add a vertical speed component and you've got major catastrophe. What are the chances of surviving a car crash at 250 mph? Not good. The passengers would be ripped to pieces by the surrounding structure of the plane as it disintegrated, with about the same number surviving as when the World Trade Center collapsed. In other words, none.
