An idea whose time has come, and gone, and come back - hopefully.

Advocates laud safety of new nuclear reactors.
"Global warming, fuel costs drive interest, but opponents warn of danger."

Can't afford to do anything else, really. Radioactivity is dangerous. So is everything, and radioactivity can be managed better than CO2, etc. For one thing, it takes up less room at the bottom of a very deep hole.

Second, at the rate mankind is going, in the 100,000 or so years it would be safe, we'll be gone. We've only been here about 75,000 years ourself so far, and it's not looking good for another 75,000 years. The big issue seems to be how many species we'll take with us.
