Some current US thinking

Of course, the real question is "Will Griffin visit Purple Mountain?"
"Purple Mountain" is China's NEO observatory. My guess is the answer is yes, given that impacts are indistinguishiable from nuclear detonations, and given that China has nuclear defensive capabilities, Command and Control issues are critical - they were between the US and the USSR, even at the height of the "cold war",
and consultation-cooperation on dealing with impact was established.
Further, it takes nuclear technologies to deal with potentail impactors.
Finally, this isn't theoretical, as the SW3 stream is coming back by at the end of 2011, again in 2017, andf finally most closely in 2022.
