Not only did he put together an America's Cup effort, he skippered the boat to victory in 77. In the '79 Fastnet race in the UK, the fleet got hammered by a storm off the Cornish coast, leading to many wrecks and great loss of life. Only about a third of the boats finished. Turner not only got his boat through OK, he came in first place..
