Okay, I'm getting a bit tired of having a news item of interest pop up, and being directed to a video or sound file. I don't browse the internet for a living, just for fun and quick information, and I don't have time to sit and watch a ten minute video of a talking head telling me something I could have read in twenty seconds. Never mind not being able to print it out.
You got something to show me? Great. Use a video. You got some music? Give me that audio file. You just making a speech? Type it out. The secret word is "transcript," folks. I wouldn't mind it if it was recent news, and nobody had time to write it up yet, but this seems to have become the preferred format now, and transcripts never show up at all in many cases.
Been putting up with this "listen" stuff from NPR for a long time. Who has time to listen to half an hour?
The "YouTube" generation...sigh.
Note to the news people...there are still a few functionally literate people out here.
