You can't apply the pure scientific method to human affairs. It has to be adapted to work with the kind of evidence people give you, and one of the most reliable indicators of truth in human affairs is when you draw blood and provoke squeals of outrage. Nothing could better validate the concept of authoritarian conservatism than for an individual who exhibits the distinct signs of it to suffer such a violently-negative reaction. The power of the concept is proportional to the power of your outrage.
