Of course, if the Democrats can gain the House, then hearings could be held (government assets used) to gain evidence.

The Democrats seem reluctant to adopt the techniques of "attadk politics". Minimally, the use of such attacks has been demonstrated to be effective in preventing an adminstration from moving forward its agende, as it makes it difficult for them to even conduct a nation's essential business.

Note that the money used to hire Private Investigators to obtain information is never reported in election filings. Most reporters are happy for the feeds, and the process thereby remains unexamined. Take a look at Whitewater, for example.

I suppose that the lessons in this is that the election process is fragile, vulnerable to both internal and external attacks. But then this was known from destabilization efforts.
