Hi All

Frank Tipler's Omega Point Theory requires Life to guide the Universe's evolution towards an ellipsoidal collapse to provide gravitational shear energy and a temperature asymmetry to act as a heat-sink. In this fashion Life can persist all the way to the Big Crunch, forever speeding up its internal clock so it can experience an infinite subjective time.

In which case perhaps the Universe starts out slightly ellipsoidal to give Life a helping hand.
