I so agree Buck. It appears an easy entrance to the base of a very prominent cliff is right there at their disposal. The layers in that cliff are likely younger than anything else they've sampled in this area. Every day gets closer to the end of Oppy's lifetime and one of the days going around that crater could easily be its demise. I'd bet that cliff face is too tempting a target for the geologists to get up close and personal with. My money is on a quick trip down there on what appears to be solid soil, get detailed and up close images of the layering, do some MI and spectrometer sampling of the reachable areas and then head back up for the circumnavigation.
I think we're beyond the "safe" days now and into the "get it while you still can" days.

The whole thread (10 posts)
- How to explore Victoria Crater?
- These new pictures might help answer that.
- at this point on the traverse, I'd have a sandwich.
