because we should no more tolerate people who reject science and logic in positions of political power than we should adults who still believe in Santa Claus.
The creationists are not just a "different opinion" of how the world came to be, they are of the opinion that anyone who doesn't agree with them completely is evil and deserves to spend a lifetime in hell because their god says so.
These people scare the hell out of me, but at least I can understand them. The ones I cannot understand are those who don't believe them, but are still willing to get in bed with them and accept them as allies in order to win elections.
