Map of Sectarian Conflict in Baghdad

I zoomed in on Baghdad using Google Maps and frankly, it doesn't look like a modern city to me. It looks like a shantytown. At a scale that I expected to see highrises, I saw tiny, low structures, and lots of them, crammed very close together. Maybe I didn't look hard enough-- is Iraq a developing country? Of course it is now.... but was it before the war?
