The concept of micro-credit, a system allowing poor people around the world to participate in real economic development, is explained further on their home page, particularly here. Interestingly, Grameen operates less like a real bank, and more like the informal family methods of bootstrap-financing its own members that I see very often around here, particularly in Asian families.
A well-deserved award, in my opinion.
