In fact, this text legibility option I have, seems to optimize viewing. The fonts became slightly smaller, thicker and wider and make it seem almost like a slightly different font face. It seems to widen the pixel count on narrow parts of letters/symbols. Which makes me wonder if the IE7 'optimize' interface interprets display code of a site on the fly and 'reinterprets' it for various screen resolutions, etcetera. It's sort of hard to describe - a subtle, yet tangible, difference.
Also for the first time I see the little red and grey HZ symbol since Justin had posted it several years ago. For just a fraction of a second or so, I see the white text on the main board which announces a compatibility issue and then it dissapears as some browser data exchange occurs.
It almost seems like a whole new Zone. ;-)
Another cool feature is the print option which resizes printed pages so that they always fit on the paper. There is also an 'anti-Phishing' option which allows you to check a sites status with Microsoft. ;-) (Another option constantly tracks your surfing and crosschecks with Microsoft for known phishing sites - a blatant invasion of privacy for those gullible enough to opt for it without thinking about what really occurs)
As to Richard's question, yes there is tabbed browsing. I had never used it before and still don't see much difference between opening up a new window, aside from the easier access of the tab as opposed to the difficulty of new windows when one has more than three or so open.

Works fine.
