Here, I have files on all sorts of folks. Some long since gone, but I thought I'd share some classic...

'Useful Idiot' Moments&#169 2006

Lot's of folks are well meaning. They really want to help and take great pride in helping. Unfortunately they haven't more than a single working brain cell in their head at any moment. Here is the tale of one such woman.

Mrs. Monica Felton was chairman of the British National Assembly of Women in 1950. She was invited to North Korea to inspect prison camps and report on conditions. That the International Red Cross had been barred didn't slow her down a bit, since she was a British communist and was sure the North Koreans were swell. She wasn't alone, the communists know who is a useful idiot and also invited Mr. Wilfred Burchett, an Australian who did correspondent work in Red China for the Paris Ce Soir and L'Humanite'. Mr. Alan Winnington of the London Daily Worker was also invited as well as Mr. Jack Gaster of the British Communist Party.

Winnington had alread written about UN germ warfare attacks on North Korea and about the evils of UN prisons. US and British prisoners in the camps were labeled by him "A lot of bloody fascists!"

The North Koreans had invited them to report on how well their prisoners were treated. This they did. Monica surprised everyone by being their biggest cheerleader and had visited their camps as early as 1951. She published a book That's Why I Went which reported that she came in open-minded and left convinced of the murder, rape and torture done by UN forces. NK prison camps were broken down and labeled 1 through 5. In camp 5 were the 'progressives' - prisoners who mouthed that they were receptive to communism. Mrs. Monica Felton was allowed to take the prisoners of camp 5 down to the village and have a meal with them. When she was there she lectured the prisoners on American aggression and world peace. The North Koreans recorded the speech, took photos and played her speech to the non-progressives in camps 1-4 over the loudspeakers. In 1952 she won the STALIN PEACE PRIZE for her efforts.

I have a photo here, so that everyone can see what 'useful idiots' look like:

She's the one standing singing the praises of North Korea and Red China. If you feel you've seen this image before, you haven't. It just seems like you have because when you've seen one 'useful idiot' you've seen them all:

In those days, over half a century ago, 'useful idiots' were not that rare but when compared to the huge numbers of 'useful idiots' in the media today and in politics today, they were positively scarce.

Useful idiots help to facilitate defeat and demoralize a nation with enemy propaganda. Right now there are many useful idiots running around - too many to count. It's too bad they will never be able to get the STALIN PEACE PRIZE. But there's always the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE, which is a close second in prestige.
