Insurgencies need local support. Grow stronger with more local support.
July 5 Newsweek column
"What is the alternative to co-opting opponents? The occupation has, in the latest CPA poll, just 2 percent support among Iraqis."
"But the second important mistake has been to discount the size of the insurgency and its local support."
In another thread it's mentioned that the GOOD NEWS is that the Iraqi military took back Amara. Forgotten is that the insurgency took over the entire town, chased out that part of the police force which wasn't helping them.
And the insurgency will take back the town.
With a whole lot of local support. 'Cause without it, there could be no insurgency.
"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED", "Bring 'em on!", and "stay the course".
