Wow, that's some leap of logic there Jeff to assume that an alternative to Bush in the White House would naturally want to stop manned space exploration. One of our more liberal-stated presidents (JFK) got us to the moon. There are certainly politicians that would be against any expenditure in space in order to free up funds for social programs but I somehow doubt that would be the norm.

My guess instead is that the Democratic party would see the job benefit working men and women get out of the country advancing technology. Most forward thinking liberals and moderates understand that the spinoffs that have come from our involvement in space have made life better for Americans of all economic levels and have advanced greatly our ecological management tools.

Maybe instead you ought to be attacking the government hawks that gobble up the lion's share of our national budget each year paying out kickbacks to the defense industry. If things there were cleared up just a bit there'd be tons of money for not only a greatly increased space budget but for most responsible social programs as well. Yeah Bush publicly supports the manned space program but he's bleeding our national coffers dry. It'll be all talk if we're bankrupt.
