This fire is in Southern California, about which I know nothing.

However, in my aborted hike through Northern California last summer I walked through miles and miles of forests on 100F+ days which had an understory of dried fuel which made it feel as if one was walking through a well-laid fire. It looked as if it would take next to nothing to set it off, and when it went Nature would have to put it out. And it WILL burn sometime.

And there's no surviving a fire in that if you are on foot. Even getting into a stream or lake wouldn't save you, as the fire sucks up all the oxygen in the neighborhood. I have to admit I kept sniffing and smelling for smoke, was happy when I came to higher ground with snow. Yes, even in that heat there was lots of snow at altitude.
