Simply the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Without those, the US is just another banana republic, and deserves to be at the mercy of the Chinese or whoever wants it. Deserves to head to the scrap-heap of history.

If the US gives up it's respect for and love of human rights, civil rights, the limitations of the power of the State over the individual without due process, it has given up its' soul.

And the enemy will win. The British couldn't do it, we survived a Civil war, the Japanese and Germans couldn't do it, and the Soviet Union couldn't do it.

However, the Bush Administration has done it, with the aid of a bunch of ragtag Islamists. Gutting both the Constitution and Bill of rights, as described very well here, Bush & Co. have succeeded in eroding what has made America great among nations, and working on destroying the rest. In the name of safety and greed.

We need to be safe from those who would steal our values, heritage, and make a mockery of everyone who fought in the Revolution, Civil War, etc, to preserve that Constitution and Bill of Rights.

It's slam-dunk simple. The True Believers can say what they want. It's just words if one doesn't respect the Constitution. One either loves what made the country great, or doesn't love the country.
