...with a Schwarzenegger. I've decided to go ahead and vote to leave him in place plugging the leadership vacuum in California. One influence on my thinking was the words of Terry Pratchett describing Lord Vetinari, the Patrician of the fictional city of Ankh-Morporkh:
What Vetinari mostly does not do is a lot of harm. We've had rulers who were completely crazy and very, very nasty...Vetinari might not be 'a very nice man', but I had breakfast today with someone who'd be a lot worse if he ran the city, and there are lots more just like him.
Arnie hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but then, he hasn't set the world on fire, either, and I for one am grateful for small favors. We could do better, but we could do a whole lot worse, too.
Besides, he's a moderate Republican, and I believe as a matter of principle in protecting endangered species. Good behavior should be rewarded.
