...I would be remiss if I did not point out that you seem to fall for a lot of 'the end is coming' hysteria which is directed at us by various groups with an agenda.
SARS, Bird flu, global warming and now the end of fish life.
That "50 year" warning is comfortably convenient. It's not five years or ten years - or even twenty years. It allows the marketer of fear a working lifetime's worth of running room to sell their package to the public for a living.
When I was a kid 30 year warnings were good enoug for most scammers - now as lifespans increase 50 years is the norm.
An example to illustrate the technique:
<font size="-1>
In 50 years...the sun will explode...unless all satellites are removed from orbit...I have studied 10,000 years worth of solar history in fifteen different sediment deposits around the world, and since the advent of the satellite era the sun was stable. A man made solar explosion is inevitable unless we get these satellites out of free space their presence in free space imbalances the solar system in some way. I really CARE for the sun. It's not worth the risk to leave these satellites in orbit. Man can live without satellites. I am circulating an anti-satellite treaty and setting up a save the sun global conference for ratification.
Now of course the nations that sign such a anti-satellite treaty are the dupes, when I have an agenda of satellite domination and exclusivity I target their populations with PR, studies, etcetera to back my position.
Reports about global warming are funded by folks who stand to gain when others stand down.
Reports on the end of fish life are funded by someone who stands to gain if certain fisheries are made to stand down. It could be chicken farmers, other fisheries - it's someone with an agenda.
SARS...Bird flu...pharmaceuticals baby!
See how it works?
;-)
