Wow, he swam the locks too. Must have been fun rising and falling with the water level, but I’m sure he stayed well clear of the drains as the water exits very fast.

I went to Chichen-Itza also, climbed the temple and stood at the Well of Death. I have a hard time believing Mr. Haliburton fell into the well and climbed out. The walls are under-cut in like a washed out hole. The government lowered divers in with a crane to look for artifacts but found little and few skeleton remains giving little credit to the claims of hundreds of virgin sacrifices. Flying over the Yucatan in a Cessna I could see many cenotes (well holes) which are a prime source of fresh water.
After visiting a few Mayan sites in the Yucatan and talking to the locals it is clear a lot is still unknown and or misunderstood of the Mayan’s culture.
