When our son moved back home and all his friends started coming over, easy parking spots in front of the house became a rarity. All I had to do, of course, was give him a call and a legion of young people would come running out to make room for me, but one day I spotted an opening between two of his friend's cars that could only be seen as a challenge. To my great pleasure I was able to snug into an opening that I'm pretty sure was about 6" shorter than my car...*that's* how good I am!
I think a lot of people perceive parallel parking as a finicky and unnatural thing to do with a car. Once an "I can't do it" mindset takes root, it often takes some uncomfortable digging to pull it out.
