As long as we're launching millions of sun-absorbing satellites...

How about working out a way to get power from some of them?

There may be another way to do this. The L1 point, directly between the Earth and Sun, is about a million miles from Earth. If you wanted to use a sunshade to obscure about 2 percent of the light from the sun, which is about half a degree wide in the sky, my back of the envelope calculations show you'd need something opaque about 1,200 miles across, or something semitransparent a lot bigger.

Problems include building it (if you can make something like that, solar satellite power will be a cinch).

Also, light pressure, as in solar sails, is going to push it out of there, and it's going to take a lot to maneuver it back.

A solid object would stay put better, but be harder to get into place. Anybody doing anything useful with Ceres?
