Logical extension to permanent asteroid habitats
Of course, if a hollow Asteroid can support multiple journeys between earth and mars, and each journey lasts 6-8 months, then it's only a small step to a permanent asteroid habitat.
Some sort of spin gravity would be needed for long-duration habitats, and then Mars may suddenly seem like a bit of a dead end.
