Boy, what a fitting wrap up of Republican arrogance this morning at the polls. My day started with a long line at my polling place even with a very early arrival just as the polls opened. Everyone in line seemed content to be in their own little world and they all seemed to respect each other's privacy. You heard almost no conversations. The line wove past the 75 foot legal limit sign and as I stepped into the restricted zone, I joked to the people behind me that I could no longer rant and rave. The male of the couple bent down to read the sign. I guess he was unaware of the law. We got a small laugh and then the line returned to the silence of before. As I neared the door about 20 minutes later, a man emerged from voting and, as he went by the line, shouted out "I hope you're all voting Republican". I leered at the guy and told him he was violating federal election law and that he was also a jerk.
He just continued on and I couldn't help but hope that many this morning were there to fight back against exactly that kind of guy, the one that feels our laws and Constitution didn't apply to him. It was his way or the highway, black and white. You're with us or against us. He's the kind of person the Republicans need to purge from their party and to return to the fundamentals that produced great leaders like Lincoln and Eisenhower. Those men would've put a man like that in his place. I would hope that Democrats would do the same for bullies within their party.
In the end I got great pleasure voting against the same style thugs that have positions of power within our at times very backward state. Starting tomorrow I'm going to also start work on finding ways to rid ourselves of John McCain. The man is a major impostor in his role as a maverick within his party. That has become apparent recently and he needs to be put in his place. I'm not sure how I'll accomplish this but I'll find a way. I always do.
