Ew, Republicans showing their breast to cameras?

Robert, I think you hit it right on. Man, it just shows how far differently my brain works than that of an authoritarian. I've never believed in imparting respect to someone just because of their position. I start out with a neutral and non-threatening view of them but I expect them to either raise or lower the expectations based upon their actions and not because of a title or heirarchy.

Maybe it's the same trait in me that makes me shun religion and faith in some higher power. Just because others told me I should believe in those things gave them no higher creedence than any other postulation. There's a wiring in my brain that says that evidence or actions have to back up the claims to authority and credibility. That so many others don't look at things that way is both a source of bewilderment as well as occassional amusement.

Nearly every situation or organization I've been a part of in my life, I've questioned and stood up to glaring inefficiency, ethical lapses, and bullies. Every time it's worked out right for me even if it caused me some troubles or consternation at the time.

When a person goes into politics I believe they sign on to that watchdog status where they have to take risks from time to time since the power they wield can be enormous. People tend to fall back on the old adage that it's how the game is played but that discounts the fact that they're leaders and can change the rules if they have the balls to do so.
