re: 2060 Chiron

I would think an accountant would be quite comfortable with numbers. :^)

As for the encounter year, that depends on when and if Cassini could
be flung out of orbit around Saturn towards Chiron. The Space.com
article says the probe will likely be decommissioned by 2012, so it would
have to be sometime around then. Anyone care to calculate such a plan?

How long will Cassini's RTGs last anyway in terms of keeping the
probe powered? As long as the ones on Pioneer and Voyager?
Better? Or less?

Another option for Cassini's end: Send it into the rings and hope to
get some great close-up shots before the inevitable collision ala Deep
Impact/Ranger 7-9. I presume no one is seriously concerned about
"contaminating" a ring particle?

Or if they do want to say good-bye to Cassini via the Galileo option,
would it be able to return any atmospheric science before the end?
