Nothing's changed. The entity tags you used, < >, came out < >. Can you point me to examples of posts with bad HTML?
The filter's never choked before on nested tags. I routinely use A inside CITE. It may just be the case that you're attempting more ambitious HTML.
I don't have a clue, but maybe some samples would help.
