Mars ISRU and Mars architectures
Dan Goldin's plans for a Mars ISRU test article were scrapped in the attack politic atmosphere of the late 1990's. It seems to me that a ISRU test bed of this type should be the next thing to be launched, and not the proposed static lander.
Without an ISRU test article, much effort may be wasted on non-economic architectures.
