Does a future state of matter adjust the variables of a previous state?

One may as well say that something decided Man would need water, and created the rules under which H and O will join. The reality is that H and O join to form water, and Man, when he came along, could use it.

Clearly Man is a creation of strings, superstrings, waves, particles, all that which came first, without any consideration as to what would come last. Or even next. Your basic proton doesn't care if it stays H+, joins with others, or whatever.

One can, of course, work backward to reverse engineer life. Someday. But without life, could life have been engineered forward? How?

It's just hard for Man, with that ego, to accept he's a natural outcome of natural processes. Impersonal natural processes, which obey impersonal rules which allowed, even necessitated, life, but didn't care if it came along.

Michael Creighton said that the meaning of life is that we get to have the experience. Period. I like that.
