Scientists baffled.

Electrical engineers and plasma physicists, not so much baffled.
Modern science needs to come out of the age of oil lamp physics and take a cue from plasma physics and electrical engineering.
Simply put, the sun and planets are in electrical exchanges via the solar wind, geomagnetic storms, Birkeland currents and the heliospheric current sheet. This is fairly easily evidenced by the auroras at the poles ofmany planets in the solar system, which have basically been confirmed by observation as being powered by interaction with the sun.
Likewise, many of the planets and their moons are also involved in electrical exchanges. See the "volcanoe(s) of IO" the activity of Europa just discovered, etc. Hot spots at the poles of Enceladus. This should NOT be surprising. So, why are Nasa and other folks acting so surprised to see electrical interaction? Must wonder sometimes. The evidence mounts, piles up really. Read, learn, deal.
That is all. Discuss as you will. I'm sure I'll get a few flames for heresy, but such is life...
Jupiter's electrical connection to IO / Europa, other moons.
