A less formal survey of those around here who believe in flying saucers, worldwide conspiracies, and other items from Ripley's reject pile would tend to lead to a different conclusion about political views. Using as an additional database my wanderings around the internet, and things like the Art Bell show, I have also noticed that, with only a few exceptions, those who believe there are leprechauns under their bed or weird faces on Mars seem to tend toward the liberal end of politics.

Anyway, a simpler explanation for the patients' attitudes during the 2004 election is that most of them assumed that anyone who looked, talked, and acted like John Kerry must be a psychotic hallucination, and not something you'd want to vote for.
