Chaps are ridculous, especially the fuzzy goatskin jobbies

But for a man working in the saddle all day in thorny brush country, they are an incredibly practical garment.

Likewise the boot (easy to find the stirrup and lock your foot in), and the hat. The same goes for the bandanna and other parts of the western rig. I admire and respect cowboys, but have nothing but contempt for those who are all hat and no cattle.

Of course, it can't be denied that in "Urban Cowboy" Travolta gets Debra Winger. Sometimes we just have to face the fact that there is no justice in the world.
