re: "Linux calls you...."

OK, let's get serious for a minute.

I don't mind experimenting, I'm intrigued by Linux, and I know there's a version of Firefox for it. That's almost all I use my home computer for, since I only have webmail (Yahoo, and three Gmail accounts).

However:

Because I help edit two online lit 'zines, I need to be able to read files saved in MS Word (stories and poems sent to the respective Gmail addys as attachments). I'm not worried about finding Linux-based HTML-editing and FTP-management freeware, which I also need for the 'zine work... I figure they've gotta be Out There, Somewhere.

Also, in the rare instances when I can waste a couple or so hours at gaming, I play "Descent:Freespace" -- which I have a feeling was written before Linux. (Yeah, it's an antique. I like it anyway. I miss being able to play "Alpha Centauri", but it's so old, it doesn't recognize my P4 CPU).

My initial question, therefore: Given my usage patterns, is Linux right for me?
