re: Hank's message "Request for assistance" ( Reprinted)

Good news! I have been contacted by a literary agent who is
interested in pitching a book based on a 1995 magazine article of
mine (SETIQuest Vol 1 no 4) on Open Cluster SETI.

He has contacted a European publisher who is looking for popular or
advanced amateur level works on astronomy and he believes my article
can be expanded into book length. I'm not so sure myself, but I'm
willing to give it a try, and I need you guys' help.

The only two professional monographs I know of which treat this topic
are the R & C De La Fuente Marcos "Seti in Star Clusters: A
Theoretical Approach" (Astrophysics and Space Science 284: 1087-1096,
2003) and the M. Turnbull/J. Tartar "Target Selection for SETI II:
Tycho-2 Dwarfs, Old Open Clusters, and the Nearest 100 Stars" (ApJ
Supplement Series, 149:423-436, 2003 Dec). I cannot find any other
professional or popular references to using old open clusters as SETI
targets, probably because the great distance to these objects more
than cancels out the enhanced probability of finding ETI there.
Neither Dr Turnbull nor Dr Tartar seem to know of any, and I am awaiting a
return email from the Spanish astronomers now. So here is where you guys come
in. Have you stumbled across anything I can use as reference
material for my proposed book, either research papers, popular articles,
or actual research projects based on this concept? And do you have any ideas which I
might incorporate into the work? (I can promise you a "private
communication from..." footnote for this!).
