re: Good news for US stocks?

My quandary is that the bulk of my investment is in my 401k and my boneheaded company gives us only options of stock and bond funds to move investments in and out of. I've asked them to add a few funds that Fidelity offers that include real estate and precious metals but, get this, the advisor they use to determine which funds we can invest in have decided that those funds have too much risk. Morons. My wife's TSA, which is basically a 401k for non-profits offers many more options.

The problem lies with the fact that all the money in my 401k is pre-tax contributions. It's not like I can withdraw it and use it where I so desire without getting the tax hit. All I can do to weather the upcoming recession (and I'm certain it's coming) is to stay somewhat conservative in my investment choices. The bonds will drop but not nearly what will happen to the stocks.

Gold is not a great investment right now in my mind except for recession/depression backup which I wouldn't mind having some of but I don't think the prices during normal cycles can rise much more. I have my own real estate backup in property we own but I'd love to get some more when prices drop in the next few years as I'm certain they will as foreclosures pile up.
