Deja vu all over again...back in 2000, NASA signed an agreement with "Dreamtime", a consortium of Hollywood interests that offerred to make NASA's priceless collection of imagery and videos available to the public. For a historical chuckle, you can read the NASA-Dreamtime agreement. They started out with lots of noise and hooplah, then just faded away.
Google's in a different league than those people, though, and if anybody can do it, they can. With 20/20 hindsight it's inevitable that Google would do this, after efforts like Google Earth and Google Mars, and their programs to index and archive all sorts of literary works.
Maybe it's time to swallow my distaste for large corporations and get my resume in order? Google doing space imagery...that's what I'd call "Dreamtime"!
