If your CD and or DVD drives mysteriously stop working...
It was probably your most recent Windows upgrade, which changes the registry. I had to climb in there and delete a line or two.
Here's the Microsoft support pagethat saved me. From now on, when something goes wrong, I am going to assume that Update is just as likely as a virus to be causing the problem.
