but hey, Athletics at Bama cleared over 40 million last year so it is an investment. Ticket sales were going to plummet under Shula. The money comes from sources that would not have ponied up for other endowments so nothing is lost to the U. The economics are sound as long as he is successful.
The SEC reigns supreme. Is this competitive, Saban, Myer, Richt, Turberville, Spurrier, Fulmer, that's some lineup of Head Coaches.
The firing of Shula (yes I was for it) was more complex than it appeared. Some of our wins (FIU and Duke especially) looked worse that our losses. Shula was offered another year if he would make changes in his staff. As you know, TT has done this with good results several times. Shula refused to make any changes and would not consider giving up calling the plays. So, in a sense he fired himself.
The Curry thing is a never ending debate. From our perspective he left by his choice, due to pressure he couldn't deal with and his career after Bama speaks for itself.
From the point of view of a fan, it feels good to no longer feel required to defend Shula's dumb decisions on and off the field and no longer have to spend time lying to one's self that the coach is competent.
