I don't think they will stand in the way.
My take on what I'm hearing from the Democrats (as opposed to their noisy leftist "base") is that they want to give Bush as much rope as he wants. They see this as perfectly safe, since they believe the chance of improvement in Iraq is effectively zero, no matter what is done.
The speeches you're hearing now are noise to establish their liberal credentials. Wait for the votes.
