re: diplomacy

Bush himself is no longer so dismissive of diplomacy and sanctions as he once was...

This is unfair. Bush has backed diplomatic approaches and international solutions as the right approaches all along for North Korea and Iran nuclear weapons issues. Liberals, who would rather eat broken glass than be on the same side as Bush on anything, crap on him for not using unilateral diplomacy and tossing the other nations out the door. If he had gone the other way, it would be the other way around.

The "incoming cargo" flap is a red herring thrown up by the Democrats. They know damn well the current tech, logistics and economics won't support a 100 percent inspection, and are simply trying to force Republicans to oppose it.

Meanwhile, out of the other side of their mouths, the Democrats are fighting every last attempt to control our borders in any way, or to try and track terrorists here and abroad.

We didn't get attacked by something in a cargo container. We got attacked by people who worked their way over our borders and integrated themselves into our society. Democrats don't like thinking about that, because unlike the cargo proposal, which only kicks evil corporations in the teeth, doing something about illegal entry and dealing with profiling hits them where they live politically.

Seems to me that having our military focused on one piece of land thousands of miles away risks providing cover for individual terrorists to sneak into the country while our attention is elsewhere.

Really? Where do you think the U.S. military would be of more use? Guarding our borders?
