All I know is what was in the public eye, and that may be wrong. However, she wasn't home much, that's public knowledge. And her kids had to read and re-read about her many affairs, wild behavior, and her ramblings about their father's affair.
And while she had a fondness for photo ops with orphans and admirably spoke out against land mines, one got the sense that ran about her beautiful skin deep.
That's just what was public. There may have been some "quality time", I wouldn't know.
I was raised by a single mom since I was 10. For the next 7 years, until I could get the hell out of there. And I didn't have to read or hear about Ma Bowser getting drunk, having affairs, travelling to far-off places with numerous and strange men.
I also think she's a tragic figure, with others writing scripts, and her own needs largely not met. And I think those latter were insatiable, though, and her kids got short-changed.

I do think she was a lousy mother.
