Legend has it, in a small community in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Mason-Dixon Line in the 1910s, some young summer residents from the big cities of Baltimore and DC brought up their automobiles and turned a resort community into a road course. So, in the dead of night, a group of leading citizens set out to make their part of the village safe for children and pedestrians of all ages, with pickaxes and shovels. When everyone woke up the next morning, they found enormous and strategically placed potholes. The motorists slowed down -- after the first couple rattled their teeth and their suspensions -- people could take their post-perandial perambulations in safety, and another chapter in vigilante traffic control was written.
The Danish option is more portable, and more attractive. I wonder if they have made allowances for sag, and whether they issue tubes of sunscreen for those on duty between 11 and 4.
