Every time I hear his name, or see his image onscreen, I get goose-bumps that last. If ol' Gus had been the first man on the moon, we'd be living in a different world. He was William Bendix in a spacesuit. Everyone identified with him. Armstrong might as well have been the first robot on the moon. It's hard to define this, but, having experienced the times as a full tilt space nut, it's a real, legitimate feeling. Armstrong's presence took away the magic! Don'tcha think?
