can EASILY be done by machine

can EASILY be done by machinenot a priori, but "in flagrante"

Add a vectored rocket pack and a 5-axis accelerometer package (measures 3-way spatial acceleration and all twists). feed the output of the accelerometer package as negative feedback to the steering software of the vectored rocket.

it's called "feedback"

If you get it wrong, the accelerometers detect the start of a pitch, roll, yaw, (or mixed mode). You use the feedback to change the vector, until you're thrusting and moving in direct line.

Real simple with modern tech. (Why CALCULATE the answer, when you can VARY the solution to fit in real-time)...
