Liberal mistakes.

I don't know why I'm doing this, but I'm starting to feel better, not great, but better, and am sitting here doing nothing but concentrating on my slight nausea.

I'm a liberal, and proud of it. I would almost prefer to say I don't understand conservatives than to accept my interpretation of their motives. I have conservative friends, and we don't discuss politics.

And there are some liberal ideas, notions, causes that I just can't abide.

Bill Clinton. Scumbag. I like his politics, wouldn't trust him to not steal the tip if we had lunch. If he hadn't been a politician or Southern Baptist preacher, he would have been a cocaine dealer. I feel much the same way about Hillary. Partly by association, partly in her own right.

Nuclear power and waste disposal. Of course nuclear power is dangerous. Not as dangerous as global warming, fewer sicknesses and fatalities than coal mining, or skateboarding for that matter, that sort of thing. The waste disposal is a slam-dunk. Glassify the stuff and bury it in geologically stable formations. Dig it up in 1000 years for the medical isotopes, power generators, and other things which can't be imagined now. Odds are, in my book, that Man won't be around in 1000 years anyway, and whatever will be won't be able to dig that deep.

The US sows land mines like grass seeds, and there are people who are afraid some future civilization might stumble upon any such repository to their detriment. Go figure.

Illegal immigrants. Key term "illegal". What "rights" should they have? To be treated like human beings who have chosen to break US law on US soil. That means not cruelly, barbarically, no Guantanamo, no Abu Ghraib. If they really want to work in the US, let 'em work during their prison sentence and then deport them upon release. Give the sick ones emergency medical care in the bus on the way to the border. Turn them over to Mexican public health authorities, if such exist.

I'm not saying they aren't nice, decent hard-working people. As a kid I worked closely with Mexicans, and I loved 'em. I'm saying that they are illegal immigrants. I would bet that with 1/4 of the money spent in Iraq we could train the military to help round them up and send them back. And save 10 times that much on social services.

If they come over again, send 'em to prison. Fine whoever they were working for enough to pay the prison costs.

And if it's in the national interest to have guest workers, then let 'em go home and come back legally. But not stay legally from an illegal start. We had an "amnesty" once, and here we are again, only worse.

There. I've vented. Still feel like a liberal.
